Digital BiographiesAfter studying famous people who lived during the depression, Ms. Ormesher’s 5th Grade students created digital stories on them using PhotoStory. They even use music from the period, added to their personal narration. Check out some of their biographies!

Interactive HistoryMr. Benfield’s 5th graders are studying the colonization of America. One of the resources they are using is an interactive site where they answer how they would have handle situations (like prioritizing cargo for the sailing acroos the Atlantic) to see how they would have fared. They are also exploring three-dimensional digital replicas of the colonial-American towns to see what life was like then.

Kidspiration - Neighborhood GroupingMs. Kibbe’s 1st grade students are using Kidspiration, a concept mapping program, to identify places that are in their neighborhood, including: their home, school, playgrounds, stores, and even roads.

Graphing FavoritesOur 2nd graders each came up with a poll assessing the classmates favorite things, on everything from desserts to pets. They used Excel to graph their results. The student pictured are Ms. Carneiro’s class.

Interactive MathAfter using the Smartboard to navigate through Envision Math (online math textbook) to learn about greater than/less than, Ms. Carneiro’s second graders logged onto their own computers to explore the array of virtual manipulatives (e.g. place-value blocks, counters, money, etc.) that are available in the “Tools 4 Math” area.

Desktop Publishing

gettingitright 019Ms. Perch’s 2nd graders are working on their desktop publishing skills by typing one of the stories from language arts in Microsoft Word. Besides keyboarding, they are reinforcing basic editing skills such as changing font attributes (e.g. size, color, and type) and inserting graphics.

Ms. Ormesher’s fifth graders are currenlty using online resources to research people who lived during the Depression. When they are done with their research, they’re planning on creating digital stories to share that person’s biography.
